The Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class may only be in its second model year, but it has already earned one of the most prestigious awards in the automotive world: Motor Trend's SUV of the Year title. The compact luxury crossover was praised by the judges for its attractive design language, upscale cabin, turbocharged engine and amazing performance.
Under the Hood
Motor Trend's judges were impressed by the standard 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder featured on the GLC300. Rated at 241 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, the judges concurred that the powertrain felt more like a V6 on the road. With its upbeat acceleration and nine-speed automatic gearbox, the crossover can go 0 to 60 mph in 6.2 seconds, which is a remarkable feat.
For those seeking a power boost, the high-performance AMG GLC43 joins the lineup this year. This version of the crossover is equipped with a 3.0-liter turbo V6 that delivers 362 horsepower and 384 pound-feet of torque.
Capable four-wheel drive, smooth steering, confident handling and a noise-free cabin are some of the other features highlighted by the judges.

Exterior & Interior Styling
The GLC-Class sports a handsome design that is unmistakably Mercedes-Benz according to Motor Trend’s judges. The bold grille design is complimented by subtle body lines and 18-, 19- or 20-inch alloy wheels. This year, an attractive coupe body style is also available for those who prefer a more athletic look, along with several design packages that allow for even more user customization.
Luxury is an understatement when it comes to the GLC-Class’s spacious cabin, which prioritizes user comfort at every angle of its design. The crossover is outfitted with standard amenities like plush synthetic leather, wood trim, a 14-way power driver seat with memory, dual-zone automatic climate control and LED daytime running lights. On the technology front, the crossover offers the latest features such as a 7-inch Mbrace Connect system with smartphone integration, a digital driver information center, two USB ports and an eight-speaker audio system.
“You know you’re getting into a Mercedes as soon as you open the door to the GLC. The quality of the materials and the elegance of the design are very consistent with the Mercedes-Benz brand proposition and reputation," said guest judge Mike Accavitti.
