Mercedes plans for all new architectures launched from 2025 to be electric-only starting in 2025. These will include at least three electric-only architectures starting this year. Mercedes will plan to be completely all-electric by the end of the decade, right before 2030.
Factories
Mercedes is planning to install a battery cell capacity of over 200 Gigawatt hours. This will include more than seven Gigafactories for batteries. One of the options here is to go with electric drivetrains, which will be enhanced. In Europe especially, there are going to be Plug N'Charge options to make charging as seamless as possible without adding a lot of the extra steps that are currently required such as authentication steps.
There are also plans to push up the number of charge stations for Mercedes up to more than 500,000 throughout the world. Their plans are to be all-electric by the end of the decade, but this is only for as much as market conditions allow this to happen. The new standards for charging, the Plug and Charge tech, will make it so that customers can just plug in and payment processing won't slow them down.
Mercedes is planning on pairing with Shell in order to use Shell's charging network, which will be expanding all the time. Just Shell alone is trying to push to 30,000 charging points throughout many areas around the world, with more than 10,000 of these being high-power charges.
Also, in pursuit of the all-electric goal, Mercedes will be adding batteries with higher capacities. These new batteries should work in 90 percent of all Mercedes cars and vans eventually.
Green Production
In pursuit of more environmentally friendly production models, Mercedes focused on making battery assembly sites that were carbon neutral by 2022. This will also include a new battery recycling factory in Germany to make sure they can recycle batteries. The planned beginning of this was to be 2023.
