What's New for the 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLE?

For the 2018 model year, the Mercedes-Benz GLE's AMG® 43 SUV and Coupe models receive a performance upgrade resulting in an additional 23 horsepower. The AMG®-enhanced 3.0-liter V6 bi-turbo all-wheel-drive engine now cranks out a robust 385 horsepower and accelerates from 0-60 mph in a sports car-like 5.6 seconds. The AMG® GLE 63 and AMG® GLE 63s models also receive a new selection of wood-trimmed interiors for 2018.

Trims & Features

The base GLE 350 SUV comes well-equipped with premium features such as 19-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels, Eucalyptus wood trim, Active Brake Assist technology and a five-year subscription to Mercedes-Benz mbrace® Connect service. The GLE 350 is powered by a 3.5-liter 6-cylinder rear-wheel drive engine and features Agility Control suspension and Dynamic Select driving optimization technology. The GLE 350 SUV is also available in the all-wheel-drive GLE 350 4-Tronic SUV trim.

The eco-friendly GLE 550e 4MATIC® Plug-in Hybrid SUV features a bi-turbo 3.0-liter V6 electric engine that produces up to 436 horsepower and clears 0-60 mph in 5.3 seconds; excellent for its size and weight. The 8.8-kwh lithium power pack has a range of 19 miles electric-only driving and takes only 2 hours to fully charge.

The performance-engineered AMG® GLE 43 features an AMG®-enhanced twin-turbo 9G-Tronic 9-speed V6 all-wheel-drive engine and is available in SUV or Coupe configurations. 20-inch black-accented AMG® alloy wheels, Airmatic sport suspension along with a plethora of exclusive AMG® exterior and interior features all come standard on the AMG® GLE 43.

The premium AMG® GLE 63 houses a formidable dual-turbo 5.5-liter 8-cylinder AMG®-enhanced engine and is available in the AMG® GLE 63 SUV, performance-tuned AMG® GLE 63s and streamlined AMG® GLE 63 S Coupe. The track-ready GLE is equipped with 22-inch cross-spoke AMG® alloy wheels, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, Active Blind Spot and Lane Keeping Assist along with a comprehensive list of AMG®-exclusive interior and exterior premium features.

Horsepower

The 2018 GLE model-line features four different powertrains starting with the base GLE 350 3.5-liter 6-cylinder 7G-Tronic 7-speed automatic transmission. The GLE 350 churns out 302 horsepower, 273 pounds of torque and is available in both rear-wheel and 4MATIC® all-wheel-drive configurations, the latter capable of towing an impressive 7200 pounds.

The GLE 550e 4MATIC® Plug-in Hybrid engine produces 436 horsepower, 479 pounds of torque and hits 0-60 mph in an eye-opening 5.2 seconds. The bi-turbo 3.0-liter 6-cylinder plug-in-electric engine combines the excellent fuel economy of a hybrid with Mercedes-Benz power and performance.

First up in the AMG®-enhanced performance-engineered line of powertrains is the 3.0-liter 6-cylinder twin-turbo AMG® GLE 43 engine. Featuring 9G-Tronic 9-speed automatic transmission and 4MATIC® all-wheel-drive, the AMG® GLE 43 pumps out 385 horsepower and 384 pounds or torque, while achieving 0-60 mph in swift 5.6 seconds, with a slightly faster time with the Coupe body trim.

The top-of-line AMG®-enhanced 5.5-liter V8 AMG® GLE 63 powertrain is available in both standard as well as precision-tuned AMG® GLE 63s configurations, the latter adding an additional 27 horsepower. This handcrafted 7-speed all-wheel-drive engine cranks out a muscular 577 horsepower, 561 pounds torque and demonstrates its racing pedigree by blazing through the 0-60 mph in 4.2 seconds; with the Coupe trim achieving slightly faster results.

Safety

The Mercedes-Benz GLE was honored with the 2018 IIHS Top Safety Pick award due to its best-in-class collision protection and avoidance capabilities. The GLE's vast array of radar sensors and cameras work in conjunction with the car to maximize safety and comfort. Utilizing Mercedes-Benz ATTENTION ASSIST®, Active Brake Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist and Blind Spot Assist technologies, the GLE is able to detect, alert and even avoid any potential collisions. The standard-equipped PRESAFE® system is designed to detect imminent accidents and automatically adjust seats and safety belts, as well as close any windows to maximize safety during a collision.
