Finding a good parking spot is a challenge or, in some busy cities, just plain impossible. Mercedes-Benz aims to make this a problem of the past.
Recently, the automaker announced that it was working with Bosch to develop technology that would allow cars to detect empty spaces and share that information with their driver and other Mercedes cars in the area. The spaces would then appear on real-time map for drivers to see. Mercedes-Benz’s parking spot concept will not only make our lives easier, but it will also redefine what our vehicles can be used for.
“Nearly all of our Mercedes-Benz cars are connected,” Sajjad Kahn, Mercedes’ head of digital vehicle and mobility, said in the statement. “If a car then also has the right sensors, it’s logical to try and use the data generated while driving past to help speed up the search for a parking spot.”
Rumor has it that this new technology is already being tested with new E-Class models which, starting in the 2017 model year, will be fitted with the Car-to-X communication feature that Mr. Kahn mentions. Mercedes has also worked with Bosch in the past to develop the remote parking pilot feature that will be debuting on select Mercedes models sometime in the near future.
It’s unclear when we will see this feature implemented on new luxury cars for sale in Lincoln, so stay-tuned to our Mercedes blog for the latest updates! Until then, you can always visit our dealership to test the new E-Class series or any of our other great luxury cars.
