What's New for the 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class?

The Mercedes-Benz flagship, the S-Class, is the epitome of class, sophistication, technology, and luxury. For the longest, the S-Class remains the sedan that other sedans are compared to, and what every other sedan driver would rather be driving. For the 2018 model year, the S-Class receives a mid-cycle refresh: regular trims receive new names and engines while the AMG® and Maybach benefit from new engines. These vehicles get the latest version of the Mercedes-Benz COMAND® infotainment system, tweaked front and rear designs, a new three-spoke steering wheel, and upgraded headlights and taillights. The S 450 and S 450 4MATIC® models are also new, as are three new upholstery choices and a suite of advanced safety features.

Luxurious Trims and Innovative Features

Mercedes-Benz serves the 2018 S-Class in four main flavors: the S 450, the S 560, the AMG® S 63, and the AMG® S 65. The uber-luxurious Mercedes-Maybach uses the same engine as the S 560 but offers industry-topping creature comfort. Standard features on every S-Class include a power trunk lid, adaptive LED headlights, a panoramic sunroof, keyless ignition, power-folding and auto-dimming mirrors, soft-close doors, and an air-ride adaptive suspension. The cabin gets leather upholstery, an air fragrance system, a virtual instrument panel, and a power rear sunshade. The 16-way power-adjustable front seats feature memory functions and heating. For the technophiles, the S-Class installs a versatile smartphone app, the COMAND® system integrated into a 12.3-inch display, smartphone compatibility, and a navigation system. Also, the tech department gets a 13-speaker Burmester system, a 115-volt power outlet, and a wireless charging pad. There are a plenty of optional packages for those who feel that the standard list is not wide enough. The Premium package offers rear-windows power sunshades, a surround-view camera system, automated parking, and ventilated front multi-contour seats with instant heating and massage functions. The automaker includes the Executive Rear Seat package with the rear passengers' comfort in mind. It adds a massage function to its multi-contour seats, seat cushion airbags, and a power-reclining right seat complete with a fluffy ottoman. You can also have a console in the place of the center seat, a refrigerated compartment, and an entertainment system thanks to the Executive Rear Seat Plus package.

A 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 unit that makes 463 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque with the help of the nine-speed drives the S 560 and the Mercedes-Maybach S 560 4MATIC®. Moving up to the AMG® S63 4MATIC® earns you a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that pairs to the nine-speed to deliver 603 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque.
