Mercedes-Benz Engine Not Working

A car that isn't starting can be puzzling for car owners. After all, how do you even begin to tell what's wrong with your vehicle? A car that won't start is a fairly common problem, and it's one that is also relatively easy to troubleshoot. Your car may not be starting for several different reasons. You can look for some clues to try to figure out what's wrong and either solve the problem on your own or contact a skilled technician for a diagnosis and repairs.

Faulty Ignition

The mechanical system in your vehicle is complex and contains many different components, large and small. One part of the mechanical system that can cause a car not to start or have trouble starting is the ignition. The ignition is controlled by either a key or a key fob. If your car has a key fob, the ignition might break if the chip, which is attached to an internal computer system, fails to work. The ignition switch can also fail to deliver energy to the car's engine in a regular key system.

Dead Battery

If your car won't start, one of the first problems you should consider is a dead battery. The battery might die over time with age and mileage, or it may die suddenly if you suddenly increase the power usage in your car, such as leaving the lights on, which can quickly drain the battery overnight. The battery should last up to 60,000 miles. Batteries can last four or five years and sometimes more with proper care and maintenance.

Clogged Fuel Filter

Your car's engine relies on several components to work as it should. The fuel filter is an often overlooked part of the mechanical system, but it is important for your car's health. The fuel filter is a part of the engine that purifies the air and filter that reaches the engine. If the fuel filter is not cleaned regularly, it can get too dirty to clean the engine and the fuel in the car properly.

Bad Starter

The starter is another mechanical component that can break and lead to your vehicle not starting. The starter will usually make a clicking sound but won't turn the engine over if it breaks. The starter will need to be replaced by a technician.

Out of Gas

A simple fix if your car won't start is an empty gas tank. You might let the gas run out by accident if you don't pay attention to the tank level, or the fuel gauge might break and make it difficult to determine the fuel level.
