How Often Should I Service My Mercedes?
If you're a new driver, you might not know all about the maintenance on your vehicle. When you should have certain components on your vehicle replaced and filled will depend on what is in your user manual because maintenance schedules can be different depending on the make, model, and year of the vehicle. But there are a few general guidelines, and if you want to get a general idea, you should know that there are certain things that most vehicles need to be done around the 15,000-mile, 30,000-mile, 60,000-mile, and 90,000-mile odometer readings.
15,000-Mile Service
If you're seeing 15,000 miles on your odometer, there's a couple of maintenance items that should be done. Continue to have your oil changed every 5,000 to 10,000 miles, according to your manufacturer's recommendations. And get a new cabin air filter so that you can breathe clean, fresh air that will keep you feeling healthy. You'll want to have your cooling and brake systems looked at by a professional, as well.
- Oil Change - Drained and Replaced
- Check All Fluid Levels - Top Up as Needed
- Tires Rotated and Balanced
- Check Air Filter - Replace as Needed
30,000-Mile Service
If your odometer is reading 30,000 miles, continue with the maintenance that you did when your car only had 15,000 miles. You need to have your fuel filter looked at too. When you have a clean fuel filter, your fuel pump won't have to work as hard, especially when you are driving up a hill. Finally, check to find out if your spark plugs are made of copper, titanium, or iridium. If they're made with copper, you might need to change them.

60,000-Mile Service
If you've made it to 60,000 miles with your vehicle, this is when you need to start watching certain things more closely. If your spark plugs are copper, and you haven't had them replaced, don't risk it any longer. Also, have your transmission fluid drained and filled; when you have clean transmission fluid, you'll protect your transmission from damage by keeping it lubricated. You should also change your radiator fluid to keep your radiator cool. Finally, checking your brake system becomes even more important. When your brake pads wear away, you'll begin to hear a squeaking sound as the caliper scrapes against the rotor. To avoid this, change your brake pads. You should also check to see if your rotors have already been damaged. Finally, make sure that you have checked your brake fluid so that you know that it hasn't been corrupted or depleted because of corroded lines.

90,000-Mile Service
Titanium and iridium spark plugs should be tested. These are the high-end materials for spark plugs, so they might be able to make it into the six-figure odometer reading, but it's better to change sooner rather than waiting until your vehicle won't start. Also, make sure that your power steering fluid is topped off. When the steering fluid becomes depleted, you won't be stranded, but it might become difficult to turn the steering wheel. Finally, you need to have your belts and hoses checked for holes, cracks, and thin points. These are made of rubber, so after miles of driving and braking, many of them would need to be replaced. Be particularly conscious of your timing belt. If this breaks when your motor is running, it will be more than a small annoyance. When a timing belt breaks with the motor running, your engine could be damaged, so make sure that your mechanic verifies that the belt is still working well.
